One of the most interesting aspects of last weeks deal between Intel and Jajah, was the fact that Jajah gained access to the Intel patent portfolio. Today I learned that there may be more to this then we thought.
A company by the name of Selex Communications Inc. filed on April 12th in the Georgia Northern District Court a claim of patent infringement against Jajah Inc.
I was unable to find any info on Selex, beyond a website for Selex Communications Ltd. However I was unable to determine from this site if if Selex Communications Ltd. is the same company as Selex Communications Inc.
In any case, this puts an added value to the Intel relationship that we did not see before, since Intel has recently been awarded a patent on a softphone. Jajah now has a weapon against Selex. Both developments worry me. Why was Intel awarded a patent for something that has existed for many years? And why is Selex suing Jajah? From a technology POV, Jajah is no different than hundreds of other companies with callback services. Can it be that that Selex selected Jajah due to their marketing success??
As I wrote below, the patent process is a mess. This is just another example!
